The UAAP Board has decided to cancel Season 82 following the extension of the enhanced community quarantine amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a statement released Tuesday, the UAAP declared the cancellation of remaining second semester sporting events for the safety and welfare of student-athletes, coaches, officials and fans.
Last month, the league cancelled all high school events and suspended all collegiate tournaments following the government’s declaration of public health emergency due to the contagion which put Metro Manila and eventually the whole of Luzon under ECQ.
Resumption of collegiate events under alternative formats of competition were supposed to begin no earlier than May 1, 2020.
But with the number of COVID-positive cases still on the rise and claiming hundreds of lives, the government declared an extension of the ECQ until April 30.
Cancelled sporting events were volleyball, football, athletics, tennis, baseball, softball, and 3x3 basketball.
