Diego Dario, often the smallest man on the court, has always proven he has one of the biggest hearts.
That remains true to this day.
A week ago, the then-University of the Philippines Fighting Maroon
and now-Blackwater Elite player set up a fund to help out frontliners in
the continuing COVID-19 crisis.
"As much as I can help, I will do so. I have a lot of time din naman
nowadays," he shared of the effort which wasted no time reaching its
goal of PhP 50,000.
That was then used to purchase 500 face masks and 50 suits to be donated to Makati Medical Center.
While his health is still safe and sound, the cause has, apparently,
become a bit personal for Dario.
"The reason why I started this is
because I have a friend na frontliner who contracted the coronavirus. He
was able to recover, but he told me that they didn’t have enough
personal protective equipment (PPEs)," he shared.
He then continued, "That made me realize that I need to do my part to
help out kahit maliit lang. Malaking tulong daw sa kanila every help
they can get."
Even better, Dario's initiative has only opened the floodgates for
many others to help out. "There are a lot of good souls out there. It's
overwhelming that everyone wants to help kasi nga, yung little help
already goes a long way," he said.
He then continued, "My heart is super full seeing a lot of people wanting to help."
Now, the 5-foot-7 guard is hoping to gather another PhP 50,000 for
more PPEs. "Itong next naman, I plan to help out yung hospitals that
don't have enough resources like in Caloocan and Sta. Ana," he said.
Donations may be sent to Dario through G-Cash and BPI.
