Monitoring of cops with Covid-19 continuous: PNP
MANILA
– The Philippine National Police on Monday assured continuous
monitoring of police officers who tested positive for the coronavirus
disease 2019 (Covid-19).
PNP chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa said the
number of Covid-19 cases in the police force has reached 19, with two
deaths and two cases of recovery.
The latest Covid-19 cases in the
PNP are a 31-year-old female from Laguna, a 41-year-old male from
Cavite, and a 45-year-old female from Batangas.
As of Monday, the
PNP Health Service recorded a total of 280 PNP personnel who are
categorized as Patients Under Investigation (PUIs) including 63 Police
Commissioned Officers (PCO), 204 Police Non-Commissioned Officers
(PNCO), and 13 Non-Uniformed Personnel (NUP).
Moreover, a total of
1,332 PNP personnel are now listed as Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs),
composed of 300 PCO, 978 PNCO, and 54 NUP.
On its first week of
operation as quarantine area, the Kiangan Billeting Center has already
admitted 39 PNP personnel listed as PUIs undergoing self-quarantine,
which consists of 11 PCO, 18 PNCO, 4 NUP, and 6 civilians.
Meanwhile,
Gamboa said the enhanced community quarantine will continue to be in
effect as the country commemorates the Holy Week this year.
“Even
as many are safely nestled in the comforts of their homes in quarantine,
let us find time to reflect and pray for the victory of mankind over
this deadly pandemic,” he said in a statement.
He also asked the
families of PNP personnel for greater understanding of their sworn duty
as he urged them to continue praying for the safety of the police
front-liners enforcing quarantine measures.
“We pray that the
reason of life shall always prevail over the want for wealth and power
in these trying times and that the Filipino nation shall continue to
endure the sacrifices that we had to take to defeat this contagion. We
beseech the loving grace of the Almighty to give our front-liners the
courage and strength to overcome this long-drawn battle against an
unseen enemy,” Gamboa said. (PNA)
