Food supply in Iloilo City remains sufficient amid the extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
"We make sure that food will always be available [for our residents]," Trenas said in an ANC interview on Monday, April 13.
According to the mayor, supermarkets and grocery stores in the city are "well stocked" with basic necessities "up to now."
"Before I declared ECQ here, I met with all the supermarket and grocery store operators and [they assured that their shelves will not run out of food supplies]," Treñas said.
"The flow of goods from Manila and Mindanao to Iloilo and vice versa is unhampered," he added.
The city has been placed under ECQ or lockdown since March 20 to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
"All the essential establishments, including grocery stores, supermarkets, and pharmacies, are allowed to operate," Treñas said.
"There are 30 buses going around the city to provide transportation for our residents and also the medical frontliners," he added.
The mayor also assured that the city goverment has enough funds for food and financial assistance to the residents affected by ECQ.
The city has 240 community kitchens. "These provide lunch and dinner for residents of 180 barangays in the city every day," Treñas said.
""Aside from the community kitchens, we also have kitchen patrols that provide meals for more than two thousand frontliners in the city every day," the mayor added.
Last week, Treñas issued an executive order extending ECQ until April 30, 2020.IMT
